Day 10 - Clearwater to Harrison Hotsprings stopping at Hells Gate

Early awake again. Never mind, at least we are not missing the days!

Decided to get underway and have a Canada-style breakfast on the way. Roasting hot as we travelled along again - air conditioning on car is an absolute God sent gift.

11:00 - Breakfast at Barriere  Stopped at Barriere for 'breakfast'. The chuckly waitress warned Katie that the pancakes were big so she only ordered one! Good job - inch thick at the centre. Took at least 2 cartons of the syrup! Lucy had the same, Mary and I had fried stuff - Mary Eggs Benedict. 3 pots of tea and a coffee.

Along the Fraser River  Rest of the journey to Harrison Hot Springs was long but uneventful. Except the area round Kamloops which is a desert - really. The temperature was 28+ easily. The whole landscape was parched and scrubby. We ran alongside the Fraser River for a long time. We even saw loads of 'white water' rafters at one point and took photos. One was lucky - lost almost everyone in a wave. Lucky because of all in the people on the river and on the bank watching, the only ones cool were in the water!

Stopped for fruit and drinks at a wayside stop. Lady there said it had been 48 degrees recently. Too hot and it made them all "kinda cranky" - they had to stand in the cooler!

We had some ups and downs on the road, but overall it was downward ever downward towards the coast.

Hell's Gate  We stopped off at Hell's Gate which is the narrowest part of the Fraser River. Gondola down from the road 500ft to the riverbank with a shop, restaurant, river display, fudge factory etc. Then there were the salmon runs - how do they get the concrete to stay in place till it sets?

We reach Harrison Hotsprings  Onward and downwards till we reach the Hotsprings. That was a surprise! It is a huge lake with a sandy beach, boats, windsurfers, parascending - everything except candyfloss. The hotel is big. We had a chappie take our bags to our room. There is an outdoor pool, an indoor heated sulphur plunge and a resting pool. Straight into both! Had to ask for a fan as no air conditioning again.

Walked round in the evening, took a couple of photos of the hills in the distance at dusk and had a salad in a local café.

Watched cable sitting on the 2 kingsize beds. Got into Casper on one channel then Katie wanted to switch channels - not likely - wait until it finishes please!

Off to bed, windows open, fan on.
