Day 14 - Walking on Whistler/Blackcomb Mountain
Awoke early a bit liverish from the gin the night before (oops, didn't mention that in Wednesday's journal!)
Breakfast at the Marriott
Never mind. Breakfast is 'free'. Fruit, juice, tea, coffee, cereal, sticky cakes, waffles (row of toasters) etc etc. As we were late (9:30ish) only bananas left in the fruit - never mind. Girls had waffles.
A decision is made
What to do - easy - up the Cable Cars to the very summit. This takes 3 different cable cars with a short bus journey between 2 and 3! However, on the first ascent, not far above our hotel in fact, we saw our first black bear. It was walking across the hillside through the bushes - success! - and too far away to shake a bell at!!.
We reach the summit
Views on the way up were great. Views at the top were tremendous. Came down from the summit eventually, to the restaurant at the top of lift 2. From there we took about 60 minutes to do a walk through alpine meadows then down through the top of the forest to the bus at the base of 3. Bus back to Rendezvous Restaurant where we had our picnic overlooking Whistler resort at about 6000ft! Gorgeous.
Provisioning - again
Made our way back down and found our way to the Market Square again. DIY Caesar Salad for tea. Caught the free bus to the hotel. Pool (hot tub to unwind from the walking) then meal. This time they had delivered the corkscrew so we could drink the wine I had bought the day before - but at least it was well chilled now!
Chilling Out
8:30ish - Watched cable till 8:30ish then left Katie watching a film whilst we went back to the hot tubs for an hour. I could really get used to it - girls discussed where we could put one in our back yard!
10:00ish - Watched end of film with Katie then bed, thoroughly relaxed.
