Day 17 - Exploring (some of) Vancouver - Lonsdale Quay and Gastown

A Late Start  I thought I had slept badly. I thought it was dead early. Went to the loo and it was 09:15 (That doesn't mean I went to sleep on the loo - it really was 09:15).

Lazy start to the day deciding where to go.

but first . . . Elevenses  11:15 Better have elevenses (and waffles with Maple Syrup - poor Lucy).

Over the Harbour to Lonsdale Quay  Then we started the shopping trip. Decided to go to Lonsdale Quay, which meant a Seabus ride across the harbour. On the way down Seymour we found Shoestrings - some very cheap 'named' trainers so we will undoubtedly go there on Monday! The Seabus is great - every 15 minutes you get in on one side, cross the harbour, and get out on the other. All automated doors and ramps. Must be very boring for the captain!

The Quay really only consists of one big building on 3 floors. Top one the public can't get at. Most of the ground floor is taken up with a myriad of 'fast food' counters and an enormous eating area. Also get fresh fruit/fish etc. Upstairs a few shops.

On the Quay itself was a Summer Festival. When we first arrived it was just a troupe of what looked like Russian Sailors, dancing and singing. Did the shops then all took some money and bought our own choice of lunch. I did Chinese, Mary Japanese, Katie Greek and Lucy Cajun! All washed down with a 'punnet' of fresh fruit.

Outside again to watch a very colourful and lively Brazilian Folk Group, dancing, singing and acrobatics.

Back across the Bay to Gastown  15:00 - By 3pm we were absolutely roasting and dripping. Back across the bay again and walked through 'Gastown'. This is now all tacky T shirts and Souvenirs. However, halfway down there is a clock run by steam. It does the standard Westminster Chimes through 4 steam hooters - slightly off key and sorrowful.

Concerted Shopping - Dad Excused Duties  After that managed the Pacific Centre (again). I was allowed to wander off back to the hotel. The ladies joined me after 6 (when it shut).

Tapas for Tea  Quiet evening dozing whilst Lucy and Mary used the gym. Later on we went across the road to a Tapas Bar for an evening snack. Very tasty mixture of soups, dips, kebabs etc and a pint of lager.

Too late for hot tub so slumped in front of the TV. We all got scared by X-Files and the scary, scary doll. Then bed.
