Day 2 - Exploring Calgary

6:30am  Gave up trying to sleep any more and waited patiently for 7:30ish to get up. Cool shower, shorts and T shirt. Girls indignant that it is only 8am. Told them that it was really 3pm 'our time' - reply was we don't do that anymore. OK then, jetlag seems officially completed.

8:38am Katie's succumbed to own internal pressure and switched on Cable TV.

Breakfast in a Foreign Land  9:30am All done and dusted - out looking for breakfast. Eventually settled upon Bernie's Bistro and Bar because of two things 1) A very big sign saying Breakfast Now 2) Everywhere else was shut until 10.

I had Corned Beef Hash. Mary had 2 eggs, bacon, fries and pancakes. Katie had bacon and pancakes (with Maple Syrup), Lucy had sausage and pancakes. Coffee, Tea and Orange $37. Needless to say we were all very full and I couldn't manage to finish the girls pancakes!

Waddled down to the huge Marls (that's how Katie says we should pronounce it) and did some serious window shopping.

An indoor garden  We found a huge indoor "garden" spread across several floors in one of the Malls - The Devonian Gardens. It was rather fantastic to see hothouse plants, water features and carvings of all sorts within some serious high-rise shopping centres.

Got very leg tired wandering around, funnily enough no-one was hungry at 1pm but we did have some fruit juice drinks (freshly squeezed). Katie and Lucy were quite cold in the Malls because of the air-conditioning. KT was glad to get out into the oven when we moved to the Glenbow Museum for a couple of hours.

After that we dragged ourselves to Eau Claire Market.
Good setup for food here. All the little deli and snack food shops sell stuff and you go and sit at chairs in the middle. I wandered off and found some juice to my liking (organic, freshly squeezed), Mary got a beef salad to take out with 2 forks and Katie did the same for her and Lucy.

Shopping Commences  Then there was JAMZ who sell PJ's "that you can actually answer the door in". Set me back $167 as all 3 got something.

Had a look round the park on the river bend island. Music Festival on - which is sold out for tonight. Also, Theatre in the Park - Shakespeare for Free. May go tonight - may not.

6pm Bought the gin at the all night shop - brown paper bag just like the movies. Mary on the 'patio' or 'roof garden' on the 6th floor, me writing this, girls chilling with Dorito's. Going to join Mary soon.

6:45 Er . . . nope, girls joined Mary. I guarded the bedroom - well specifically the bed, well my side of it anyway.

Shakespeare in the Park  7pm Went to the park again and watched the Mount Royal College's Shakespeare in the Park - 12th Night. Paid $6 for 4 brownies in the interval plus $3.75 for 3 Pepsis. Reasonable performance. No takers for food on the way home, not even Mary!

Stopped at the all nighter to get small carton of milk "Milk to Go" for the morning tea and also some Choc Chip Cookies.
Pleasant evening drinking cold G&T and eating aforementioned cookies.

Planning tomorow's journey  Looks like Calgary to Banff will be painless. Just get to airport, pick up car, cross 2 junctions and hang a right onto Highway 1 the Trans-Canadian Highway all the way to Banff. Sounds easy. Read tomorrow's journal for the truth of that statement.

11:10pm Bed. Hot, earplugs, see previous night!
