| Day 7 Trip up Whistlers Mountain | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 7:10am | Hurray - told you we slept well!
Mary went to the seats overlooking the river and read her book for an hour whilst we busied ourselves being dead, then getting up. I went into town to fetch milk, juice and cereal whilst the girls performed whatever they perform. |

| Shopping | Into Jasper shopping - Mary actually found some boots she liked - and bought them! After that we went to the cable car for the ascent of Whistlers Mountain (named after the call of the Hoary Marmots - which are as big as cats). We again approached it from 2 different directions, just to make sure. |

| Whistlers Mountain | One and a half hour wait in the blazing sunshine, then a 7 minute ride to 'near' the top. Tremendous views across and down the valley.
We ate in the restaurant at the top of the cable car house, overlooking the valley. Then it was the grueling trek to the actual summit - don't tread on or pick the flowers, don't even take a stone. The air seems very thin at 7000 feet so it took about 40 minutes to reach the top. The views were even better from here as we had a 360 degree view. At one point Mount Robson's summit came clear as its own personal clouds lifted.
Funnily enough, the trip back to the tram was much quicker and did not involve any stops for breathing exercises. Only a 30 minute wait for the tram down. |

| Shopping again | Quick trip to Jasper, double park outside shop whilst Mary grabs Pop and Sticky Buns (she did pay as well!) then a little rest...then back to Jasper shopping and Laundromat. Very humid which not surprisingly turned into a very wet thunderstorm experience.
Did washing (well Mary did), had tea in a little diner with a TV - still don't understand rules of Baseball - and ice cream from the shop next door.
Back chez nous late evening. All sitting on the benches in the late evening sun overlooking the river, writing postcards, diaries etc. Actually a broad hint has just come my way, concerning some sort of gin drink required to be brought back from the cabin WHEN I GO FOR MY HAT/JUMPER/CHECK THE WALLCLOCK - whatever!
I think the diary will be finished for tonight now - I have to fetch my jumper as it is turning cool. May take the opportunity to pour Mary a gin and tonic. |

| Update on the Toe | By the way, Katie's toe, after the brave little girl had walked to the summit of Whistlers Mountain and back was a little more swollen with a definite purple line where the break obviously is. Yet again another ice pack for 10 - not 9 or 11 - minutes. Some discomfort still, but not enough to stop us doing anything.
As Mary and I have sat here for the last 2 hours - now with jumpers on - the girls have been indoors for the last 45 minutes. Apparently they are bonding and have drunk the little bottle of freebie wine Katie was given with her meal on the plane.
Now to decide what to do tomorrow.
